September 2025 Chair Message

Dear Lebanon County Democrats,

It has been a busy and eventful month. On September 2, around 30 people attended our committee meeting. We heard from special speakers Cesar Liriano, who is running for mayor of Lebanon city; Rachel Wallace, who is considering a run next year for US Congressional 9th district; and Jayne Duncan, who detailed why the retention vote on the ballot this year is so important.

On September 6, the state committee convened in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where former PA Auditor General Eugene DePasquale was elected chair of the PA Dems. PA Senator Sharif Street, who has served as chair since 2022, resigned to focus on his US Congressional campaign. We thank Chair Street for his service and welcome Chair DePasquale!

Last week, Charlie Kirk was murdered. There has been plenty written on the matter, with opinions streaming in from across the political spectrum. I want to make it clear that the Lebanon County Democratic Committee is opposed to political violence, in any form, by any group or individual. While Kirk held many ideas that run counter to our core Democratic principles and values, there is no justification for political assassinations. Beyond that, there is plenty of discussion to be found, no matter your viewpoint. I have found the commentary of NY Times columnist Jamelle Bouie, as well as President Obama’s thoughts, to be useful in making sense of this event.

In the meantime, our democracy needs us now more than ever. We have less than 50 days until our next election on November 4, 2025. And it’s as important now as it has ever been that we do everything we can to get out the vote. Here are upcoming events so you can get involved.

LCDWA Open House (Sunday, September 21st)

The Lebanon County Democratic Women’s Association (LCDWA) would like to extend an invitation to our open house this coming Sunday, September 21st at Hoss’s in Annville at 12:30 p.m. We are looking to change our direction to become more effective in these difficult times as well as accepting men as associate members!

Hershey Indivisible Postcarding Parties (nonpartisan)

Hershey Indivisible Team (HIT) is conducting a nonpartisan postcard writing project to get out the vote and to inform local voters about the importance of the judicial races in our state. The postcards and stamp costs are supported in part through a grant from I​ndivisible. HIT is partnering with the newly-formed Lebanon County Indivisible, Mondays with Meuser, and the Lebanon County NAACP in this effort.

If you can spare an hour or two, bring your favorite pen and drop in to write postcards to our neighbors. This is your chance to meet new people and be part of the local resistance community.
